Electrcious Summer: HYDRATE

on Jun 21, 2017

Welcome to the first installment of your #ElectriciousSummer, Watts is here to lend a hand.

The Problem:

Summer means sun, salt, fun and partying. For Floridians, these factors are intensified x1000— the more sun you’re exposed to, the more water your body needs. And with kids home for the summer, it is far too easy to become distracted from your healthy habits.

Dehydration Danger Zones:

FESTIVAL TIME: Summer is festival season– the outdoors, mid-day blazing heat and dancing. When you sweat, water is not the only thing you lose: you’re drained of vital electrolytes, vitamins and minerals. This leads to weakness, fatigue, dizziness, and electrolyte imbalance. These symptoms can prevent you from seeing your favorite sets, or even making it through the day. Purchase a reusable water bottle or hydration pack and set times in-between artists to refill. Every festival should have a designated hydration station.

When you’re hungry, purchase watermelon slices or a coconut water-based popsicle over the salty, fried foods that will dry you out even more. In addition, a shady spot, sunblock and sunglasses are always your friend at festivals. Keeping your skin and body protected will keep you from drying out. When you’re back from all the fun, Watts can also help you cleanse the body with our Charcoal Watt-er. Staying hydrated flushes out bacteria, waste, and toxins. Combat these impurities with the power of activated charcoal, which binds to the surface of these nasties in your body and eliminates them. Charcoal Watt-er is your ultimate detoxifying weapon.

WORKING OUT: The weakness, dizziness, and electrolyte imbalance experienced when dehydrated can severely impact your physical performance. So whether you’re playing some soccer at the park with family or running a 5k, hydration is imperative. When is the best time to hydrate when planning a workout? Before, during, and after. Moreover, it is important to remember to limit your intake of caffeinated beverages.

The enzymes and nutrients in pressed juice, especially our water-dense 36 Watt, help dilate blood vessels to improve blood flow, neutralize oxidative stress and repair cellular damage, making it a better option for your workout. It’s easy to want to reach for a coffee or tea before heading to the gym. Tea and coffee are diuretics, so you’ll end up losing most of what you're taking in, dehydrating you in the long run.

BEACH DAYS & VACATION: Trips with family or friends can provide you with new experiences and memories for a lifetime, but tend to be the time for bad habits to resurface. Start a good regimen the day you arrive. Begin your day with a 16 oz glass of water, no matter what. And as fun as it may be, alcohol is also a diuretic, draining you of your healthy water levels before you can catch up. To combat this, match every alcoholic beverage you consume this summer with a tall glass of water. Remember that reusable water bottle you purchased? Keep it on you through all your adventures.

When you’re headed to the beach, note that raw fruits and veggies are high in water content, making snack time a mindless way to keep your hydration levels maximized. Cucumbers, zucchini and celery can contain up to 96% water, while fruits like strawberries, watermelon and tomato up to 94%. Pack a few of these babies in your cooler and you’re good to go.

When you’re back from a day out in the sun, treat your body (and possibly sunburned skin) to some 12 Watt-er Aloe Water. Aloe isn’t just topical. It is water-dense and jam packed with vitamins B, C, and E and a multitude of antioxidants shown to purify the body and neutralize the effects of UV radiation.
