Post Holiday Cleanse

The holidays are here, and so is everything that comes along with them: eating, drinking and even a combination of the two (see: rum cake). So after all that fun, your body could use a break. More specifically, it could use a cleanse. Before you cringe at the word cleanse (we all remember the trend of only drinking lemon and cayenne pepper), let’s explore the Watts way of ridding those toxins that your body’s absorbed along with your holiday cheer.

Just follow these tips and you’ll be well on your way.

Preparing for your cleanse:

Attitude is key. No one is forcing you to do this, so your intention should be set on what you want to get out of this cleanse. With that, you need to prepare. No one goes from binge-eating cookies to a cleanse and feels great about it. You want to go into it with a healthy diet of eight glasses of water each day, organic produce, eggs and whole grains. Stay away from alcohol, caffeine, sugar, processed foods, dairy, red meat and gluten. This will ease your hunger craving while you cleanse.

During your cleanse:

Simply put - just go for it. Drink only juice for however long you designate your cleanse to be. Eating during a cleanse will slow down the process of your goal, but if you want to incorporate food, make sure you eat organic fruits, vegetables or soaked nuts and seeds. As far as exercise, go easy. Even if your energy level is up, that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re ready for strenuous exercise. This is especially true for first-time cleansers. So just pay attention to your body before exercising and stay hydrated. Your body is working overtime already, so use this time for some brain food instead. Read, write, listen to music; whatever makes you happy and keeps your moving forward.

Post-cleanse:

Woo-hoo! Once you’ve powered through your cleanse, you should be feeling healthier, more energized and less like you did after two servings of Grandma’s Thanksgiving stuffing. So keep it up. Make sure you stick to an overall healthy lifestyle. Don’t waste your hard work by going straight to junk food just because you were disciplined for a few days.
